I don’t know about you – but, for me – I thought setting boundaries was something we do with others.
Then, one day, someone said to me, “if you can’t be with yourself, how can you be with other people?”
For some, self-love is a radical choice, especially after years of selling themselves short. This calls for profoundly new actions.
How to set boundaries with yourself looks like saying (to yourself), “I love you but this doesn’t make me feel good. I want to feel good with you, because I love you.”
Here’s what that can look like:
Having a bedtime
Momentum is everything in life. Most people have a wake-up alarm, but have you heard of anybody having a go-to-bed alarm? Just a thought.
Guaranteed rest for the next day. Having a bedtime can ensure an early start to your day. Why not max out on sunlight while also feeling well rested?
According to Spirit of Compassion, 10pm to 2am is a prime time for circadian rest. Consider this 4-hour window a ‘double the points’ rewards opportunity on your sleep
Setting restrictions on your devices
In other words, don’t be a slave to your phone. Delete apps that promote mindless checking; your instagram feed can wait until you get to your laptop, Eric.
Blue light before sunlight messes with my entire day. My mind becomes way less disciplined when this happens. Am I more sensitive than most? Maybe. But trust me, I feel each of our ancestors would react in the same way I do, given a smartphone for the first time.
Same goes for bedtime. Aim for the inner workings of your mind to be at zero when you fall asleep. I’ve done this. Your mind will feel refreshed and clear upon waking up.
What *not* to do before bed.
Not believing all thoughts as truth
Realize that your thoughts will vary based on your mood!
Most of the time, you are at the mercy of your mind, and not your own free will. That’s right. Until you learn to quiet your mind consistently, by taking time for stillness, and doing one thing at a time (for mindfulness purposes), thoughts will make their way to your conscious mind and you won’t know where they came from (or why).
Learn to identify when you’re in a good mood, so that you can recognize the low points. In those times, be gentle with yourself, because your thoughts may deceive you.
Eating foods that make you feel good
Delayed gratification is the name of the game. But have you ever heard of people craving leafy greens once they start eating them consistently?
Recognize that your body is a machine, and is borrowed. Respect it, and watch your own self-worth follow.
Eat food (real food), not too much, mostly plants.
Doing hard things in the moment to create your desired future
“To procrastinate is to be entitled. It is arrogant. It assumes there will be a later. It assumes you’ll have the discipline to get to it later (despite not having the discipline now).” – Ryan Holiday
Doing the hard thing in the moment is equivalent to choosing the higher timeline. We always have a choice. Why not see how good life can get?
A great line from Avatar: The Last Airbender goes like this: “With fierce determination, passion, and hard work, you can accomplish anything. Raw talent alone is not enough.”
Sticking to your word
This is Integrity 101. Deep down, you know where you f*cked up. Do not disrespect your own self.
Think of honouring your word and completed tasks as an invisible boost to your Self-Respect-O-Meter (which is invisible because your energy introduces you before your words do). Wanna be powerful? Build your score up.
The best way to keep your promises? Don’t make any.
How can these things be done?
By using the tools at your disposal
Tell Siri to set a 60-minute timer for you to get work done. AI can hold you accountable when no one else will.
Plaster sticky notes in hard-to-miss places if need be.
Dedicate 5 minutes the night before to write a to-do list. Crossing things off physically never gets old.
Don’t even have it in the house
Junk food? Don’t even venture down that aisle!
Clothes you haven’t worn in 12 months? Think of material objects as energy. Out with the old, in with the new. The Force rewards people who keep it moving; energy.
Unwanted gifts from past lovers? Same same.
Just go back-to-back for starters
Use tomorrow to help you be accountable today.
What has worked for me? Playing the Drake song ‘Back to Back’ as my hype/celebration song for creating new habits (ie. no looking at screens after midnight).
The reward of having completed just 2 days of a new boundary for yourself will make day 3 that much easier. Forget 21 days to create a habit. Keep going back-to-back.
When is a boundary safe to break?
Don’t ever attach yourself to a person, a place, a company, an organization or a project.
Attach yourself to a mission, a calling, a purpose ONLY.
All of the above will guarantee you your power and your peace.
How to love yourself out of addiction requires a tenderness and recognition for the simplest parts of you you may never have acknowledged before. Like how small you are. How gentle you are with everyone. How we so effortlessly take life for granted.
It has been so generously given.
What does it require to break an addiction?
Self-love. This is the main ingredient, and it takes on many forms. Softening yourself to appreciate your body? Check. Getting on your knees and folding your hands? 🙏 Check. Keeping an open mind? Double check. Open minds lead to open hearts. And this is your answer.
Look at the word addiction again.
It has a prefix. Its root is ‘diction’, which is a form of expression. ‘a-‘ as a prefix means that no such thing exists. English grammatical rules require for the letter ‘d’ in the word ‘addiction’ to be doubled because of its position between two vowels. So, any use of the word addiction (which can apply to anybody) implies a lack of self-expression. That’s why they say the opposite of addiction is connection, and why 12-step meetings work so well. In a safe space, we enter a judgment-free zone.
How To Love Yourself: A Beginner’s Guide
Begin to understand that your home is where the heart is. Opening your heart will change your life. The key to loving yourself is letting your brilliance be sacrificed for bravery. Bravery, here, means living with an open heart. Things will automatically start to fall away from your life, and goodness reaches you.
It starts small, with identifying where the heart is in your body, and putting more of your attention there each day. It sounds silly but it works! Looking down at it, acknowledging you’re carrying it in your chest, thanking it for supporting you. These things matter. Then, there’s touching your chest, feeling your heartbeat. The more attention you give it, in stillness and in daily life, the more energy will flow into your heart. This focus on your heart and self-love can significantly improve your mental health. Your bad habits will feel less tempting after a while. Persist. And let your heart do the talking.
How do you love yourself properly?
Consistency matters. Loving yourself is the most important romance you’ll ever have, so treat it like so. Loving yourself out of any struggle involves taking time out for self-care, letting your heart know nothing else takes priority.
If you want to overcome addiction, make a daily ritual. This practice not only nurtures your self-love but also significantly improves your overall health. You start having a dialogue with your heart while doing this, and everything else falls into place. You start to believe that “good things happen to good people,” because of the shift you’re making. And if you ask yourself, “how long have I been a good person?” You’ll be able to answer honestly, and be proud of how honest you can be with yourself. Because the heart doesn’t judge! Heart is the portal for the abundance of love. Once you start opening it, in your own way, you’ll realize what I am beginning to realize myself: There’s always more love.
Why do I struggle to love myself and have low self esteem?
Realize that we’ve been conditioned to think and talk our way into loving ourselves. Love is an action. Words mean little without action. Personally, I grew up saying “I love you” back to my parents more than I would think to say “I love you” to myself. And was their love unconditional? It wasn’t. If you struggle to love yourself, the proper technique may not have been modelled in childhood. As a result, our minds get mixed up. We struggle to love ourselves because we’re not being authentic to who we are. Remember, this struggle is not a moral failing but a result of past conditioning and societal pressures.
As a first born child, I was raised to please. Loving myself has been an act of rebellion against the conditionings of my survival mindset past. It takes gentleness. It took me 30 years to settle on the truth that there’s nothing wrong with me. When you give yourself time, and silence, you give yourself the best gifts you can give. Society has not made it easy on us. So, remember your gentleness. And persist.
How to 100% love yourself?
Make it a daily non-negotiable every day. Was that sentence redundant? Well… worth it. Because to access your Higher Self fully, it will watch you to see if you mean it. It isn’t a matter of time. It’s a matter of alignment. Once Life realizes you’re serious about your health, it will move mountains to meet you. Making self-love a daily practice can significantly improve your physical health, reducing the risk of chronic diseases and enhancing your overall well-being. It’s almost unfair how life good can get for people. But they have realized the same thing you can too. To choose yourself. Every. Single. Time.
How to remove the addiction?
Write the intention down on paper first, if you ask me. Nothing big happens for me unless I share it with myself or someone else first. Again, Life is always watching what you do. Thoughts are one thing, action is another. Writing it down (I recommend using carbon pencil and unlined white paper) locks in it, and waking up to it every day starts chipping away at the mess your Lower Self has built for itself. You’re rising above like a badass. Remind yourself of that. Give your body what it wants: nourishing foods, zero screen time before bed, and sleep. By this point, your mind will have been trained to think differently. Resist it. “Not today, Satan.” Not today.
What are the 7 tips of recovery if you are an addict experiencing withdrawal symptoms?
Prayer. This was the first line of action of Nayib Bukele, El Salvador’s president, after he took office. He knew he needed divine intervention to rid the country of its demons. Why not try it too?
Take one day at a time. This could be edited to “Take one moment at a time,” but to the addicted mind, this can feel daunting. Use Tip #1 in the morning, and at night, and do it from your whole heart. This will guarantee success in the long run. How much of it is then up to your mindfulness.
Slow your roll. Make space for at least five minutes of conscious breathing or eyes closed in meditation or chanting ‘OM’. Ten is preferable. Doing this before you leave your house/room and interact with the world is the wisest choice of all. If you can overcome yourself in the morning, the rest of the day is easy. And you’ll willingly extend the time allotment as you go. I do two hours.
Get back in touch with nature (AKA yourself). Nature wants you to sleep at night, and rise with the sun. Nature wants you enjoy the trees and the fresh air. Nature wants you eating real food. “Not too much. Mostly plants,” says Michael Pollan, narrator of Food, Inc. For me, this means low fat, low protein. That’s right, low protein. Yet, I’ve got Popeye-like strength. What did he eat?
Make new friends. It’s likely that the old ones were enablers. This may be the toughest tip of them all. You’ll have to be brave for this one. 12-step meetings are an easy common ground. Joining a group with a like-minded hobby or interest can work wonders, too. Just having the courage to put yourself out there, I feel, will have unknown blessings start making their way toward you. Nice.
Work out. The gym is also a great place to make new friends. My life lately is a testimony of that. Whatever you do, whether it be running, swimming, or lifting weights, will distribute energy evenly throughout your whole body, and ground you, deeply quieting the mind’s temptations. Check this cool article on grounding which explains its benefits in further detail.
Cleansing your liver means ridding yourself of all the toxins you no longer need to hold onto to access your Higher Self. I don’t know about you, but all that banana-flavoured penicillin I took as a kid for strep throat? Yeah, that was still in my liver twenty years later. The body keeps the score. Flush your liver with lemon water.
How do I stop extreme addiction?
Just ask! For some things, we need prayer, says the Bible. And I’m not even a Christian!
Recognize your will is weak with addiction. A loving connection to others can strengthen it. A lot of times, it’s easier to do things for others than it is to do things for ourselves. Make your reasons for stopping your bad behaviours as big as your heart and mind will allow. Life will then see those intentions.
How do I overcome my addiction?
The easiest way? Just ask. Call upon a Higher Power. Even if it’s the best version of… you. Remember a time in your life where you totally would have had the willpower to kick any bad habit. The higher intelligence out there will know when you are asking sincerely to put an end to your addiction, and will bring you the people, circumstances, and inspiration for you to overcome it. The methods on ‘how’ are endless, but one thing the healed version of you does want to see, is surrender.
How do you cut off an addiction?
Replace it with something else, even if it’s only slightly better.
Personal example: my addiction to gambling turned into a small daily AM dose of marijuana. Much less harmful, way more affordable. It changed my consciousness in the necessary ways, and it was a part of my journey. Now, drug-free, I am able to see the medicinal aspects of marijuana while realizing that the strongest version of me needs none to feel balanced. Get this: I’ve replaced weed smoking with meditation. Although it takes over 45 minutes to get even remotely close to the ‘clarity’ I had with weed, I feel great knowing I need nothing outside of me to get out and see the world!
Gaia’s been on my radar since 2020 when the ads on my YouTube feed piqued my interest enough to finally buy a yearly subscription. I’ve now spent 100+ hours binging on how to learn about spirituality, meditation, and ancient wisdom featuring the most trusted names in the world from my phone, the big screen, on breaks from work, while cooking, and pretty much everywhere else you can imagine.
In this review, you’ll get the inside scoop on what Gaia is all about, from someone who actually pays for their service. I’ll break down all the most important details and answer every important question you need to know. That way, you get an accurate picture of what’s included, the things you can learn, and the overall price-to-value ratio BEFORE BUYING based on my quarantine binging.
Let’s take a deep dive, and I’ll let you decide.
Pros:
The Netflix of spirituality. Paying for Gaia means your search is over for finding top-shelf, professionally-produced spiritual entertainment outside of the mainstream media narratives. YouTube can try to compare, but go ahead and try to sift the wheat from the chaff. Gaia is a one-stop shop for everything on your spiritual journey. How about the savings of not having to pay separately for a meditation app? Gaia constantly updates their content library and their app lets you stream on any device, meaning you don’t have to search for spiritual content anywhere else. It’s basically the same price as Netflix, but it actually makes you smarter instead of dumber.
Be your neighbourhood sage. Gaia will have you strengthening your connection to Mother Earth. The company’s mandate of going beyond what modern science and research are telling people will put you on the cutting-edge of information. What if friends and family started coming to you for advice on their spiritual journeys? Take it from me, after consulting dozens of doctors and specialists, the goofy-sounding man seen below helped to save my brother’s life. (e.g. watch Heal)
Insane value for your money. $150 for unlimited access to 10,000+ hours of ancient wisdom from experts is amazing value. “Life changing” are words that come up multiple times if you look in the review section for Gaia in the Apple App Store. If there was ever a University of Spirituality, Gaia would be it. Unlimited access for $150? Keep in mind that one university course costs $300-400 at minimum. This is $150 for a giant leap in your spiritual growth.
Paralyzed by choice. With over 8,000 films on a variety of alternative media subjects, you’ll have to use the discernment of an FBI agent to decipher what’s good (for your level of understanding) and what’s not. Gaia employees will tell you their content library makes for a “choose your own adventure” game. My advice: be decisive. When I first joined, I had paralysis by analysis. Topics include health and healing, nutrition, expanded consciousness, ancient civilizations… the list goes on. It can be daunting just knowing where to start. May I suggest The Earthing Movie?
Interviews can be hit or miss. With now 29 seasons of Open Minds with Regina Meredith, they are beginning to reach (if you ask me) for new topics to discuss. The Galactic Federation of Light? Sign me up to learn more about that. Palmistry? Not so much. And though the host is what some may call a consummate professional, a friend pointed out to me that she is “very much in her masculine.” Open Minds may be the biggest success of any series on Gaia, but I have a low tolerance for interruptions of a guest. It’s a good thing the stories make it worth the watch. Case in point, the interview with Anita Moorjani.
Quick Verdict
Is it worth it? After years of being a Gaia member, yes, it is worth it.
What is the key takeaway? You’ll get out what you put into it. This is not the type of streaming to play in the background while you’re cooking. Respect to you if you can manage it. But this is highly concentrated juice, if you know what I’m saying.
What are the key selling points?
Hours of healthy, enriching entertainment that double as a helping hand for you to achieve inner peace and a more conscious life
Life-improving tips every day
A thousand spiritual books, all on one platform
Fun and interesting stories you’d never hear anywhere else
Tips on how to develop a spiritual practice that is right for you
Objections to paying for Gaia?
It looks expensive, but it’s actually not. $150/year is less than $0.50/day for science that is decades ahead of its times. The Heal and Earthing documentaries can open you up to a whole new paradigm, just on their own, and the price of transforming even just one human life is priceless.
What are some minor criticisms?
Some of their older content is still available to watch. Maybe you won’t like the production value of Angel Stories – Part 1, which looks like it was made in the 1990s. Or, if you’re one to peruse the comment section, many of them aren’t in English. (Although you can get the gist of “Asombroso !! gracias 🙂 “) If you’re a true beginner to spiritual content, the selection can be overwhelming. Again, I suggest sticking with what you love first. (I just found out that Gaia has a whole Food Network-esque section under ‘Recipes’.)
At the end of the day…
When you combine its Library of Alexandria-like catalogue of yoga videos, meditations, documentaries, and an in-depth guide to different belief systems, it makes Gaia a no-brainer. Their immense variety gives light to the truth that we are all the same, but we are not equal. Any spiritual person is guaranteed to find something that resonates. Plus, there’s a 7-day free trial. Why not? You’ve got nothing to lose.
Who is it for?
You’ll love Gaia if:
You’re fed up with the news-at-eleven mainstream narratives fed through TV and newspapers
You’re thirsty for knowledge, and like me, constantly seeking for the right answers
You feel grateful about being in communion with like minded people
You want to grow spiritually
You won’t love Gaia if:
You are actually looking for in-depth training for a certain skill (e.g. a certification for being a shaman)
You don’t watch at least 10 videos (You need to get your money’s worth)
You don’t consider yourself to be a spiritual person
You trust the government

Personal Opinion
Before giving it a shot, I assumed Gaia was “too advanced” for my taste. After subscribing, I now see how a thousand miles begins with a single step. Picking one thing at a time (and adding the rest to your ‘Watch Later’ playlist) is my recommended way to go about using Gaia.
The benefits for me have been:
Clarity of why spending time in the sun is a good thing, what makes our skin turn red while outside, and how communing with the natural world is healing
Learning about (God-given) experts who have dedicated their lives to the mind-body connection (e.g. Dr. Joe Dispenza and Gregg Braden)
Seeing that modern science does connect with ancient sciences (e.g. astrology and numerology)
Exploring the possibility that humans have much more than just the five senses of touch, sight, taste, feel, and smell
Confirmation that (real) food is medicinal
The proof of those claims:
My brother’s recovery from what has medically been labelled ‘fibromyalgia’. Turns out, this is stage 4 EBV (Epstein-Barr Virus) wreaking havoc, not your body hurting itself.
Cutting out seed oils (especially canola oil) from my diet has done wonders for my skin
Cutting out tap water, combined with daily meditation, have helped open my third eye, increasing my intuition (the highest form of intelligence)
Learning about myself and others by breaking down their life path number (using numerology), which makes for an AMAZING party trick
The personal growth alone: comparing me, versus who I was five years ago, is like night and day
My experience:
The absolute best thing, to me, about Gaia, is its heart-opening content. Everything else is secondary. We are here to remember our divinity, very much like Jesus came to show us his own. In the bible, John 14:12 states, “I tell you most solemnly, whoever believes … will perform the same works as I do myself, he will perform even greater works, because I am going to the Father.” The Father (or higher power), Gaia confirms, can only be accessed with an open heart. What I’ve found about Gaia is that its spirit and its content goes well beyond religious traditions (which are all man-made) and is primarily concerned with empowering me, and all other human beings, to step into the walking, talking, breathing gods that we are (we’ve just forgotten!).
Features Breakdown
Gaia Yoga videos and instructors will save you many years of going down wrong paths. Find the teachers that resonate with you: there are now 96 to choose from! If you’re starved by choice, narrow it down by choosing duration time, ranging from 5 minutes for a quick morning pick-me-up, to 90 minutes, if you’ve got time in your schedule. Levels go from 1 to 3, so that beginners know where to start. As if that’s not enough, there are 43 categories to choose from, from neck, to spine, to stress reduction. There are over 50 videos tailored to women and over 30 for athletes. In this regard, Gaia Yoga makes your $150 investment look like a cup of coffee, considering you get access to these videos for one year. Compare this to doing yoga on YouTube with ads, or paying $20/month for yoga apps with lower ratings.
As a beginner to yoga, their visual library of the poses, paired with their 5-minute quick hitters, makes Gaia a great place for me to start to practice without having to make a fool out of myself at an in-person studio.
Clicking on the ‘All Meditations‘ tab can be equally overwhelming for someone new to Gaia. Good thing you’re there to meditate! It takes just one full video to realize Gaia has made it so that members can stay subscribed for years and not tire from a lack of options. Pick the ones that jump to you. For me, it was Ram Dass. His beautifully-produced five videos are about five minutes each. One of them is titled ‘No One Way’, which perfectly describes the diversity of Gaia’s meditation catalogue. There are sound baths, hypnotherapy audios, guided meditations and more, to help you tune into the present moment. Their selection is special because, compared to other meditation apps, it honours both East and West. This is how Gaia gained such a global audience to begin with.
The meditations help me to reset between my regular sits to start and end my day. The best use of Gaia’s meditation library is to lift you to a place which is above thought, sitting with nothing but silence.
“Fast forward to 22:47 of Bilderberg: The Movie and you’ll find it interesting that the movie was made in 2016.”
Now for Gaia’s bread and butter, if you ask me. There is no other platform that would allow the stuff Gaia puts on their front page. Fast forward to 22:47 of Bilderberg: The Movie and you’ll find it interesting that the movie was made in 2016. Try having that last more than a day on YouTube without being taken down. With Gaia, you also lose the censorship that you see on Netflix. If you’re a fan of coverup stories, paranormal activity, or the occult, you’ll be wondering why they don’t charge more. They can afford to; they’re the only ones pumping this stuff out. Interested in health and healing? Go off the court with Novak Djokovic, where he credits a drastic change in diet to becoming world no. 1.
Gaia is where videos don’t get shadow banned. Their content has opened my mind. As a result of some seriously soul-resonating truths, I’ve stopped watching the news. Where else can you find documentaries about fluoride in our water, ETs on Earth, and ‘What Doctors Don’t Tell You’ all in one safe place? As a Virgo, there are few things sweeter than entertainment that is actually educational.
Conclusion
Like mother goddess of earth, Gaia has a lot to reveal. If you’re looking to cultivate more of an inner knowing, want to invest in your own personal journey, or are looking to understand spirituality, Gaia gives you a great place to start (and accelerate). Their unfiltered content are your eyes to a world around you that most people can only ever get by experiencing. If you’re a person who has ever asked the universe for truth about what’s going on in this world, consider this an answer to your prayers.
I strongly recommend Gaia be in the home of all conscious families, so that kids these days can be unaffected by the fear and negativity designed to stymie them. I recommend Gaia to anyone on a healing journey, so that they use the medicine found in grocery stores (herbs and food) to give their bodies the ‘premium gasoline’ it deserves and easily avoid the pitfalls of corporate agendas. I recommend Gaia to you, the reader.
Here’s my proof: increased consciousness and higher awareness of myself (and the world) will have foundational effects on my whole life. Gaia’s commitment to provide content to make real-world changes have changed my diet, my interests, my community, spiritual health, and in a word, my lifestyle. In a way, Gaia is not for the faint of heart (but neither is spirituality). You’ll lose friends, that’s the biggest objection. A relationship doesn’t have to be permanent to be successful. Neither does the one you have with your old self. Make that the one you knew before Gaia. Once you see the truth, you can’t unsee it.
If you’re wondering how to learn about spirituality, often, that intuitive pull is coming from a higher place. And yes, it requires an investment. “Those who pay, pay attention.” You *did* get to the end of this article, after all… isn’t that you?
If you’re not convinced, let’s finish by taking a look at some other options.
Alternatives
Remove the spirituality, the yoga, and the integration of different belief systems, and you’ll land on Netflix (for roughly the same price). The key difference here is intention. The people at Netflix are experts in pure entertainment, to captivate for captivation’s sake.
You’ll prefer Netflix if:
You love to veg out
You want the end of the day by ‘turning your brain off’
You like having movies run in the background while you do chores
In short, Netflix wants to entertain you. Gaia wants to entertain you, plant a seed in your personal spirituality, and uplift collective consciousness. Only on Netflix will you find two separate documentaries acclaiming and villainizing the same subject (Bill Ackman, in both Betting on Zero and Dirty Money). Gaia gives it to you straight, without making you second-guess where they stand on the subject.
Netflix is for people who prefer facts over truth. Facts make great serial killer documentaries. Gaia has none of those. It’s tough to compare the two because they target different audiences. Let’s put it this way, I went through Netflix to get to Gaia. Just like the movie Heal, which I watched on Netflix, was removed, and can now be found on Gaia!
YouTube’s value proposition is also different than Gaia’s. Since we’re not playing around with ads, YouTube Premium (with its comparable price) is the most obvious alternative to Gaia.
You’ll prefer YouTube Premium if:
You don’t mind spending extra time curating for quality
You have a diverse range of interests
You have a short attention span
With Shorts, YouTube has targeted the TikTok audience, their focus on capturing your attention in a bite-sized 60 seconds or less. Again, YouTube is less interested in educating than they are in grabbing eyeballs. Their top earners are great storytellers. You can now be a profitable content creator using nothing but AI. That being said, many big names are putting their podcasts up on YouTube for viewers wanting more.
When it comes to quality and truth on this platform, May The Force Be With You. Since anyone can create videos and upload them on YouTube, you’ll have to be extra decisive on what you want to watch. Compared to Gaia, it is superior in its breadth of content quantity and inferior in its quality control. During the summer of 2020, when the planet took a pause, I could spend weeks aimlessly browsing YouTube for their consortium of astrology videos. Gaia keeps it simple and only hires professionals. Hindsight is 2020, too.
YouTube is intended for people who know what they want. If you don’t, hold onto your hat/schedule. Their algorithm has a way of hooking you in!

This is such a well-researched and well-written article! I’ve gained a new perspective on the topic, and your explanations made everything easy to follow and understand.
Have you ever set time aside for what the kids call “grounding”?
While out on a forest walk with my dog, I used to find big trees and hug them.
In an isolated part of the forest, a young lady walked up on me, stopped in her tracks, saw my arms wrapped around a tree, and asked if I was hiding. I told her I was grounding.
Grounding came onto my radar around 2020 and, as a Virgo, it felt intuitively true.
It’s a modern-day movement which harkens to our ancient DNA.
Clint Ober, who worked in the cable industry in the early 1960s, is one of the people who felt called to blaze a new trail in the alternative health scene when he ‘grounded’ his bed by using metal duct tape, a wire leading to his yard, and a nail in the ground. He slept perfectly without needing to take his usual dose of Advil. He then saw tourists coming out of a bus, all wearing what looked like brand new white Nike shoes. He thought: “I wonder if these shoes could be interfering with… us.”
There’s now a movie about it, called The Earthing Movie: The Remarkable Science of Grounding. (Check it out for free on a Gaia trial using this link.) Dr. Gaetan Chevalier, Ph.D., sees it as essential. “We need grounding just like we need air and sunshine.”
How to Ground Yourself: Here are the Best Ways
1. Visualize a cord from your body going down to the core of the Earth (best for winters)
a. The body has 7 main energy centres, the heart being at the centre
b. Make sure you visualize pure white light from above your head pouring down into each and every chakra, from top (crown) to bottom (directly below the tailbone) and then down to your toes
c. While keeping your eyes closed, visualize the light reaching your toes and hitting the floor, illuminating the whole floor, and then down to the earth
d. Send your love down through the surface of the floor, the earth, the regions below the earth, right down to the core of the earth
e. Let the core of the earth take all of your worries, thoughts, and dissatisfactions away (it wants to help)
f. Once you’ve connected with the core of the earth, picture a bright green light rising from the surface of the earth, enveloping your entire body, and through to your head
g. When the light reaches your head, it keeps going upward, reaching three feet above your head
h. This cloud of green light then spreads from above your head, in all directions, three feet around your body, reaching below your body
i. Once the bubble of green energy is complete, feel Unconditional Love pouring through your crown chakra going directly into your heart chakra
j. Unconditional Love and green earth energy are mixing at the heart chakra and mixing, spreading to your entire body, to give all positive things for your life, your health, and your spiritual improvement
k. Even when you stop this exercise, the grounding technique works to continuously flow Unconditional Love and green earth energy through your body, promoting overall well-being.
l. Move your fingers slightly, and open your eyes, with a happy smile 😊
2. Hug a tree (the most effective)
a. This may be the best way to ground yourself
b. Simply hug a tree like it is your long-lost lover! (The effects are profound)
c. Better yet if you can remove footwear and have your feet on the ground, making a direct connection with the earth.
d. Do it for at least 60 seconds and thank me later
3. Be in moving water
a. Swim laps with focus on how the water feels against your skin
b. Stand where ocean waves break around your legs
c. Wade into a stream and feel the current around your ankles
4. Take advantage of your time with children and pets
We all come naturally grounded to Mother Nature. Our birthright is to be in sync with the earth’s rhythms. Kids have absorbed and ingested less of what ails us. Dogs ground themselves every time they go outside (no need for shoes). Hugging them is a great way to ground yourself while indoors. Dogs will then release that energy through their paws outside. Spending time with children and pets can also help reduce emotional stress, as their natural grounding abilities can have a calming effect on your mind and body.
5. Have your feet touch ground (the simplest)
Best to do in the early hours of the morning. While standing in nature, pour water onto your bare feet and feel yourself being rooted.
Think about this…
“In simple terms, what earthing does is it literally squinches the fires of inflammation and if inflammation is the source of all root illnesses including Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, heart disease, diabetes… I mean the list goes on and on. If you can impact inflammation and squelch it, kill it, stop it… we’re going to be healthier beings.” – Dr. Stephen Sinatra, M.D.
“Our body is electrical. This is all electronic equipment. The heart, the brain, the body. I mean, this is all electrical equipment. It’s all electrical. Everything is electrical … Grounding is to maintain the entire system in a stable and electrical environment … Health is not something we really have to work on. We have to let it be. We have to take the things that are interfering with our health, that are compromising our immune system, and remove them from our life, and then the body will go back to normal.” – Clint Ober
“To know that there are solutions, and there are solutions in nature. One of the biggest solutions is that connection to nature. And people forget that first! It’s sad. Because it is so accessible, and it is so real to know that a grounded me or a grounded you is different from the one that’s not connected. And that’s what grounding does. It pulls you in to you, to who you are.” – Mariel Hemingway, grand-daughter of Ernest Hemingway
The effects of grounding on immune response
Grounding may be one of the most underrated habits you can do. Energetically, grounding makes you feel lighter. Using either your mind, body, or both, you connect to to Earth’s natural energies. Like our dogs, it is a way to put our paws on the grass. We pick up so much outside energy in the day and it weighs on our system. With conventional medicine’s pill for every ill, I tell people the above methods feel like taking a drug. This way, it honours our ancient roots, and that’s how Mother Nature intended it to be.
Want to transform your life and contribute to world peace at the same time? The answer might lie in a 5,000-year-old text that’s more relevant today than ever. Let’s explore how the Bhagavad Gita’s timeless teachings can guide us toward spiritual growth and global harmony.
The Wisdom of East Meets West
When Steve Jobs read the Bhagavad Gita during his soul-searching travels in India, he wasn’t just following a hippie trend. He was tapping into a profound source of wisdom that would later influence his innovative thinking and leadership style. Today, this ancient Hindu text continues to bridge cultural gaps and offer solutions to our modern spiritual crisis.
What is the Bhagavad Gita?
Picture this: A warrior named Arjuna stands on a battlefield, facing an impossible choice. His charioteer happens to be Krishna, an incarnation of the divine, who uses this moment to share profound spiritual teachings. Through their dialogue, we learn about duty, purpose, and the many paths to spiritual enlightenment.
The Four Main Paths of Yoga
Did you think yoga was just about twisting yourself into a pretzel? Think again. The Gita outlines four main paths to spiritual growth:
1. Karma Yoga: The Path of Action
This isn’t about good karma points – it’s about selfless service. When you work without attachment to results, every action becomes meditation. Imagine washing dishes with full presence, or helping a colleague without expecting recognition. That’s Karma Yoga in action.
2. Bhakti Yoga: The Path of Devotion
Ever noticed how love makes everything easier? Bhakti Yoga channels emotional energy into spiritual growth through devotion. Whether you’re singing in church, chanting mantras, or simply feeling gratitude for life, you’re practicing Bhakti.
3. Jnana Yoga: The Path of Knowledge
For the intellectuals among us, Jnana Yoga offers a path of self-inquiry and philosophical contemplation. It’s about understanding your true nature through study and reflection. Think of it as spiritual critical thinking.
4. Raja Yoga: The Path of Meditation
This is what most Westerners think of as yoga – but it goes beyond physical postures. Raja Yoga is about controlling the mind through meditation, breathing practices, and ethical living. It’s the science of direct experience.
Understanding Spiritual Growth
Spiritual growth is a lifelong journey that involves deepening one’s relationship with God and becoming more like Jesus Christ. It is a process of transformation that occurs as we surrender to God’s will and allow the Holy Spirit to work in our lives. Spiritual growth is not just about gaining knowledge, but about applying that knowledge to our daily lives and becoming more like Christ.
As we grow spiritually, we begin to see the world and ourselves in a different light. We start to understand that our purpose is not just to live for ourselves, but to live for God and to serve others. We begin to see that our struggles and challenges are opportunities for growth and that God is always working in our lives, even when we can’t see it.
Spiritual growth is not a solo journey, but rather a journey that is meant to be shared with others. As we grow in our faith, we are called to share that growth with others and to help them grow in their own faith. This is why community is such an important part of spiritual growth. When we surround ourselves with other believers who are also seeking to grow in their faith, we are able to support and encourage each other on our journey.
The Power of Faith in Achieving World Peace
Faith has the power to bring people together and to promote understanding and peace. When we have faith in God, we are able to see beyond our differences and to focus on what unites us. We are able to see that we are all children of God and that we are all called to love and serve one another.
Faith also gives us the strength and courage to stand up for what is right, even in the face of adversity. When we have faith in God, we are able to trust that He is always working for our good, even when things seem impossible. This trust gives us the courage to take risks and to stand up for what we believe in, even if it means going against the status quo.
In addition, faith promotes forgiveness and reconciliation. When we have faith in God, we are able to forgive others and to seek reconciliation, even in the face of great hurt and betrayal. This forgiveness and reconciliation are essential for achieving world peace, as they allow us to move beyond our differences and to work towards a common goal.
Practical Applications for Spiritual Growth in Modern Life
How can we apply these ancient teachings in our fast-paced world? Here are some practical approaches:
Start Where You Are
Begin by incorporating small changes into your daily routine. Spend time with God to deepen your understanding and foster spiritual growth. Make it a habit to pray regularly, asking for guidance, support, and healing. This practice can help reinforce your faith journey and strengthen your connection with the community.
Your spiritual path doesn’t require moving to a mountaintop. Begin with small changes:
– Practice mindfulness during daily activities
– Set aside 10 minutes before leaving the house meditation
– Read inspiring texts during your commute
– Serve others through volunteer work
Integration of Eastern and Western Approaches in Christian Faith
The beauty of the Gita’s teaching lies in its universality. It complements Western psychological insights and scientific understanding. For example:
– Meditation’s benefits are now backed by neuroscience
– Mindfulness practices are integrated into modern therapy
– Yoga’s physical aspects support mental health
– Eastern concepts of interconnectedness align with quantum physics
The Path to World Peace
Can individual spiritual growth really lead to world peace? The Gita suggests yes, and here’s why:
Internal Peace Creates External Harmony
When we find inner peace, we naturally create peaceful environments around us. It’s like dropping a stone in a pond – the ripples spread outward.
Unity in Diversity
The Gita teaches that truth is one but paths are many. This perspective naturally fosters tolerance and respect for different beliefs and cultures. The Christian faith also emphasizes unity and love among believers, which can strengthen community bonds and promote harmony.
Practical Steps Toward Unity
Interfaith Dialogue
Creating spaces where Eastern and Western spiritual traditions can share insights and find common ground.
Cross-Cultural Education
Learning about different spiritual practices broadens our perspective and reduces prejudice.
Shared Practices
Many Western organizations now incorporate meditation, yoga, and mindfulness – creating bridges between cultures. Living a Christian life involves commitment to peace and reconciliation, which can further enhance these efforts.
Modern Challenges and Solutions for Spiritual Maturity
We face unique spiritual challenges in our digital age:
Information overload
Constant distraction
Materialistic pressure
Environmental crisis
The Gita’s teachings offer solutions:
Mindful technology use
Regular digital detox
Focus on being rather than having
Understanding our connection to nature
Spiritual growth is a lifelong process that requires continuous effort, much like the teachings of the Gita emphasize ongoing commitment and development.
Spiritual maturity is crucial in facing modern challenges, as it involves growth through relationships, understanding, and the guidance of spiritual principles.
Moving Forward Together
The journey to spiritual growth isn’t about choosing between East and West – it’s about finding what works for you. The Gita’s flexibility allows for personal interpretation and application. Some practical steps:
Explore Different Paths
Try various spiritual practices to find what resonates with you. New believers should seek pure spiritual milk to grow in their faith.
Build Community
Connect with others on similar journeys, regardless of their background. Recognize God’s work in the community and support each other.
Stay Grounded
Remember that spiritual growth should enhance, not complicate, your daily life.
Conclusion: Your Lifelong Process Begins Now
The Bhagavad Gita tells us that every moment is an opportunity for growth. Whether you’re dealing with workplace stress, relationship challenges, or existential questions, its wisdom offers practical guidance.
Remember, spiritual growth isn’t about reaching a destination – it’s about the journey itself. By combining Eastern wisdom with Western practicality, we create a balanced approach that can lead to both personal transformation and global harmony.
Want to start your journey? Pick one small practice from this article and try it for a week. Notice how it affects your daily life. As the Gita teaches, even a little practice of dharma saves us from great fear.
Your path to spiritual growth is unique to you. The key is to start walking it with awareness and intention. Who knows? Your individual journey might just be part of the collective path toward world peace.
What is the greatest piece of technology in the universe?
If you ask me, it’s the human body. Well, the mind-body-soul connection, to be precise. The body dies, the soul does not.
How to be spiritual means to feed your spirit side and starts by being your authentic self, who you came here to be: your dharm.
There is a lot of talk, specifically around health, that refers to the physical body, our mental wellbeing, and how we’re doing emotionally. We’re finally ready to talk about how it all relates with our spiritual (or, meta-physical) side. According to my spiritual guide, without this invisible-to-the-eye part of us, any human is barely able to realize 5% of who they are!
Maybe The Little Prince was right after all…
Here are 99 ways to ensure that The Force be with you on your spiritual journey at all times:
#1. Every day, be aware of your “Hour of Power”.
This hour is divided into two windows : the 30 minutes after waking up + before going to bed. Ever collect reward points on a credit card? These two time windows will help double and even triple your odds of having a great day, both now and for tomorrow. In these two 30-minute windows, you are being asked a very important question: What do you worship?
This information comes from Vincent Tolman, author of The Light After Death. He was featured on the Spirit Speakers podcast and describes it in further detail at the 39-minute mark of episode titled ‘Near Death Experience’. Click here to learn more.
#2. Embody gratitude.
“Gratitude is the wine for the soul. Go on. Get drunk.” – Rumi
The Creator loves a grateful devotee. Asking the Divine to help you embody gratitude will do nothing but good. We are given waking life each and every time we open our eyes after sleep. The least we can do is pause and thank the One who brought us here.
Brian Grazer, Oscar-winning film maker and author of A Curious Mind: The Secret to a Bigger Life, credits his grandmother for sowing the seeds of remarkable possibilities. “Think big, be big,” she kept telling him in childhood .
Just remember, with affirmations, your heart and mind must align. And be humble! Now go: think big, be big.
#4. Pray for anything you want.
Prayer is a technology. Master the art of faith, patience, and detachment, and you will see miracles.
From my own experience, when I get on my knees, fold my hands, and connect with my heart, my mind subsides and I get a clearer signal to the Divine. Pray to be protected by a large bubble shield made of Pure White Light to breeze through your day without negativity getting in your way before leaving the house. Pray to be blessed in unknown and miraculous ways before going to bed.
The Creator likes when we claim what is rightfully ours. So, try it. Pray as if it given. And don’t be too surprised when/how it comes. Just be thankful. And claim it!
#5. Lemon water; first thing in the morning.
Studies have shown that lemon water first thing in the morning is a “natural laxative”. In other words, Mother Nature’s set to run Metamucil out of business.
How does this relate to spirituality? Don’t you want to have a clear channel to the Divine? Clearing your bowels and cleansing your liver is a sure-fire way to receive the most divine downloads. 😉
#6. Ground your energies every day.
This is like taking en energetic shower. I take two. Read more here.
#7. Read spiritual books.
It was The Autobiography of a Yogi which supernaturally pushed me over the edge to start meditating every night. The magic contained within its pages gave me the motivation needed to start seeking more seriously for that same magic within. Good books will do that. Good books will have you starting to believe in yourself.
Don’t like reading? Read what you love, until you love what you read. For example, in my case, it needed to be my childhood favourites, before moving on to more mature content.
#8. Journal in your own unique way.
Journaling is a great way to process your thoughts and feelings. Like grounding, it makes you feel lighter, especially as a ‘verbal processor’ when you have no one to talk to.
Recommendations for journaling are jotting down snippets of important conversations from earlier that day, quotes from #inspo you find in books or online, and writing down song lyrics.
It’s been helpful for me to write daily: positives and work-ons.
#9. Sit with yourself.
If you can’t sit with yourself, how can you sit with anyone else? This is why I find introverts some of the most interesting people. They don’t need the approval of others. Can you relate to this?
The point is this: shut off your five senses. (We have more than five, by the way, and meditation is the tool to get there.) ‘There’ being the goal of total, inner, blissful peace: no thought. My hope is that you, the reader, reach here someday.
#10. Be like the Sphinx.
This one’s from Dr. Jack Kruse. An audience member at a Q & A he was hosting asked him what the “number one thing” was that could be done to improve their health. A cantankerous Dr. Kruse took a pause to acknowledge that this was the best question he had been asked. Everyone’s ears perked up to his answer: “Be like the Sphinx”.
What he means is this: rise with the sun. The Sphinx faces the East. It meets the sun at the crack of dawn every. single. day. There’s just something about getting sunlight in your eyeballs in the morning… ☀️
#11. Limit fat before noon.
The analogy given to me was one of a car in freezing weather. Think of your digestive system as the engine. Are you really expecting your car’s engine to be enthusiastically running about after hibernating for 6-7 hours? Give it time. Give it water. Give it fruits and vegetables. Again, thank me later.
#12. Look in the same direction that you are driving in.
If you’re moving forward, look straight ahead of you, no rubbernecking. While society holds up signs pointing to the newest celebrity couple or the tragedy happening in the Middle East, in which direction are *you* heading in? Call me insensitive, more than 99.9% of the things happening in pop culture and being reported on in the news have nothing to do with me. This is the aim of so much of media and entertainment; to distract.
#13. Speak no evil.
“Never speak badly about yourself, even as a joke.”
Here’s a 5-second psychology lesson: your subconscious doesn’t know anyone outside of you exists, so, when you speak ill of anything or anyone, it thinks you’re talking about *it*! (ie. You)
#14. Mindfully count your breaths.
Naturally, doing this will sync you with your heartbeat, which creates the mind and heart coherence needed for mental clarity.
On a vibrational level, mindful breathwork aligns us with higher states of consciousness. The breath acts as a bridge between the physical and subtle energy bodies, and paying attention to it harmonizes our energy field. When our breath is slow, steady, and intentional, we elevate our frequency, inviting more positivity, love, and spiritual alignment into our lives.
#15. Move your body.
“You don’t want to talk to me before I have swum.” – Dr. Gabor Maté
As we engage in exercise, we align our mind and body, releasing stagnant energy and embracing a more vibrant state. This heightened energy frequency enhances clarity, positivity, and connection to life’s higher vibrations.
#16. Reduce exposure to mainstream media.
Mainstream media often focuses on fear, negativity, and sensationalism, which can drain our energy and cloud our mindset. By limiting exposure, we create space for uplifting, inspiring, and empowering content that nurtures our well-being. This conscious choice protects our mental clarity, emotional balance, and spiritual alignment. It helps us stay centered, maintain a higher frequency, and focus on creating a life filled with peace, positivity, and purpose.
#17. Ween off pornography.
Pornography often distorts perceptions of intimacy and love, reducing profound human connections to superficial experiences. By letting it go, we reclaim our natural curiosity and purity, fostering authentic relationships built on trust and deep emotional bonds. This choice helps protect our energy, align with our higher selves, and cultivate a sense of self-worth rooted in genuine connection. Preserving this innocence allows us to approach intimacy with presence, respect, and a heart open to true love.
#18. Do the thing that scares you.
By venturing beyond familiar boundaries, we cultivate resilience, courage, and faith in our inner strength. Spiritually, this expands our consciousness and opens us to new opportunities, insights, and connections that were previously inaccessible. Each step into discomfort is a leap toward personal evolution, aligning us with our higher purpose and enabling us to reach new levels of fulfillment and understanding.
#19. Cook your own food.
Being spiritual means to feed your spirit. By preparing meals with intention and love, you infuse them with positive energy, aligning your food with your body’s unique needs. This mindful act allows you to choose fresh, wholesome ingredients that support vitality and clarity. Cooking connects you to the process of creation, fostering gratitude and presence. Eating food prepared in this high-vibration state promotes balance, energy, and harmony, elevating both your physical and spiritual well-being.
#20. Give, with thanks.
Making purchases in a state of gratitude transforms spending into a high-vibration act, fostering abundance and positivity. Gratitude shifts our focus from lack to appreciation, creating an energetic alignment with the flow of prosperity. When we acknowledge the value we receive in exchange for money, we honor the energy behind the transaction. This mindful approach strengthens the belief that there is always enough, inviting money to circulate back into our lives. By appreciating what we have, we attract more opportunities for abundance and financial well-being.
#21. Keep your inner child with you.
Doesn’t hurt to remind yourself of what you looked like as a kid. Here’s me:
#22. Drink 3-4 litres of water per day.
As you prioritize your spiritual growth, you will become a clearer channel for more and more energy coursing through you. Water is vital in distributing the higher energies in your body evenly.
#23. Release limiting beliefs.
A common limiting belief is that we need to struggle in order to achieve. (ie. “no pain, no gain”.) Though not untrue, transformation can also happen through joy, love, and curiosity.
#24. Ween off toxins of all kinds.
Cutting out toxins is like firing the bad roommates in your body.
Physically, ditching junk clears up your skin, boosts energy, and makes your insides dance with joy. Spiritually, it’s like decluttering your soul’s inbox, making room for cosmic downloads and good vibes. No more chemical hijackers messing with your glow-up! When you give toxins the boot, you align your body and spirit, creating a temple where your higher self actually wants to hang out.
#25. Break the ice.
At the end of a walk the other day, I found myself saying this to a man wearing high-vis gear and making good use of an ice scraper while in subzero temperatures: “It’s a satisfying feeling, eh? Breaking the ice?”
Breaking the ice with strangers is like unlocking a secret level in the game of life—awkward at first, but packed with rewards! Every “Hi, how’s it going?” is a mini workout for your courage muscles. You grow by learning to handle weird pauses, laugh off your own jokes, and maybe discover the stranger’s dog has the same name as your childhood goldfish. Plus, you never know when a random chat might spark a friendship, a business idea, or at least a hilarious story. Awkwardness builds character—dive in!
#26. Learn a new language.
“The more languages you know, the more people you can be.”
Practically, it opens up communication with a wider range of people, enriching travel experiences and enhancing career opportunities. It sharpens cognitive skills, like memory and problem-solving, and fosters a deeper understanding of different cultures. Spiritually, language learning helps broaden our worldview, cultivating empathy and connection with others. It encourages humility as we navigate mistakes and celebrate small victories, fostering patience and personal growth. Ultimately, it connects us to the universal flow of energy, expanding our consciousness and creating a deeper sense of unity.
#27. Think of money as energy.
Thinking of money as energy is like realizing your wallet is a magic portal to a cosmic dance party! Instead of hoarding it like a dragon with gold, you start seeing cash as something that flows freely, like good vibes at a festival. When you treat money as energy, you stop stressing over it and start channeling it to create more—whether through investments, experiences, or helping others. The consequences? You’ll be amazed at how fast it circulates back to you, and your abundance mindset will make you feel like a prosperity wizard! ✨💸
#28. Know that time is an illusion.
“It’s not a matter of time, it’s a matter of realization.” – my teacher
Time is an illusion, like a magic trick that tricks us into thinking we’re always running out of it. The clock is just a set of numbers telling stories we’ve agreed upon. So, why not rewrite the script? To use this to your advantage, try focusing on the present moment, where all the “real” action happens. Pause and breathe, instead of obsessing about the future or dwelling on the past. Break free from the time trap by setting your own pace, enjoying life’s little moments, and embracing the idea that you’re always exactly where you need to be!
#29. Take yourself out on a date.
Everyone should take themselves out on a date at least once in their life—it’s like giving yourself the VIP treatment without needing to impress anyone! Imagine dressing up just for you, enjoying your favorite meal without having to share, and chatting with yourself like you’re your best friend (because, let’s be honest, you are). It’s a chance to reconnect, recharge, and remember that you’re totally awesome on your own. Plus, you can pick the perfect activity, whether it’s a solo movie marathon or indulging in dessert for dinner—no judgment allowed!
#30. Cut out fake friends.
“People come into your life for a reason, a season, or a lifetime.”
You’ll know just by the feeling. When something is right for you it will give you energy. That’s how you know.
#31. Curate your social media feed.
This changes who you are. How to be spiritual means how to be lighter. Follow only the accounts that promote Love, Life, and Unity. Unfollow those which pit one against the other (ie. politics).
#32. Set intentions before scheduled events.
It can be as simple as “Love and vulnerability”. Or walking into a room like your ancestors sent you. Because they did.
#33. Do one thing at a time.
“Devote your entire will power to mastering one thing at a time; do not scatter your energies, nor leave something half done to begin a new venture.” – Paramahansa Yogananda
#34. Pat yourself on the back.
Celebrating the smallest wins is like throwing a party for your brain every time it does something right. Did you remember to drink water today? Boom, confetti. Did you get out of bed before noon? Instant celebration. It’s all about giving yourself credit for the little victories that might otherwise get lost in the chaos. These mini celebrations keep your motivation high and remind you that you’re crushing it, one tiny step at a time. So, go ahead, throw yourself a mental high five—your brain deserves it!
#36. Try one session in a sensory-deprivation tank.
If you’re curious about meditation, but haven’t given it a try. The tank is a great place to start. It’ll give your nervous system a rest.
#37. Bless your food.
Blessing your food before eating is like giving your meal a little extra love and gratitude, especially with processed foods. It’s a way to infuse positive energy into whatever you’re consuming, reminding yourself to appreciate the nourishment, even if it’s not the most natural. A quick blessing can shift your mindset, making you more mindful of what you’re putting into your body. Plus, it’s an intentional moment to pause, breathe, and reset before you dive in. That simple act can improve digestion, boost your mood, and transform how you experience your food.
#38. Bless others.
Just silently wish someone happiness, health, or good fortune as they walk by, and watch the universe work its magic. It’s like giving the world a mental high five, and bonus, you don’t even need to leave your seat. Plus, the good vibes you send out come right back to you—because, hey, karma’s got your back!
#39. Surrender the outcome.
Surrendering the outcomes of your actions is like finally letting go of the remote control for life’s TV show. You’ve done your part—now, just kick back and enjoy the ride. When you stop obsessing over results, you make room for the universe to work its magic. It’s like planting seeds and then saying, “Hey, whatever grows, grows!” Plus, when you surrender the outcome, you save yourself from stress-induced hair loss and accidental keyboard smashing. So, go ahead—release the need to control, and let life surprise you (hopefully in a good way).
In this book, Laura Lynne Jackson, the author and psychic-medium, relays what she has seen in the spirit world to us, the audience. It’s truly magical what can be achieved with the help of some supernatural nudging. Her first book, The Light Between Us, is just as good.
#42. Call upon the Essential Angels.
#43. Observe an animal.
Observing animals is like attending a free, front-row spiritual seminar, with way more fur and zero judgment. Animals are total masters of living in the moment—no stressing about the past or future, just pure presence. Watch a cat stretch, a dog chase its tail, or a squirrel plot world domination, and you’ll catch a glimpse of life’s simple joy. They’re teaching you that it’s okay to take breaks, enjoy the small things, and, sometimes, just eat without worrying about what’s for dinner tomorrow. Spiritual lessons? Delivered by furballs!
#44. Hug a tree.
You’ll feel grounded, with deeper roots afterwards.
#45. Be present.
Being present means fully embracing the “right now” without obsessing over the past or future—like when you’re so into a snack that you forget what time it is (hello, blissful bite!). It’s being in the moment, whether you’re lost in a YouTube rabbit hole or giving your pet a side-eye that says, “I love you, but stop stealing my socks.” Sometimes we’re present without even realizing it—like when you’re watching a sunset and for a split second, you forget about everything except how pretty the sky looks. Being present is basically the art of time travel… minus the actual time travel.
#46. Forgive your parents.
Even if it means ghosting them for good, this is like decluttering your emotional closet. Holding onto grudges is like keeping that old sweater you’ll never wear again—it just takes up space. Forgiveness doesn’t mean you have to invite them to your birthday party or even return their calls. It just means you’re giving yourself permission to stop carrying their baggage. So, if forgiving means you never talk to them again, cool. You’re just setting boundaries like a spiritual ninja—peaceful, strong, and without the toxic family drama.
#47. Forgive yourself.
Forgiving ourselves is like trying to return that shirt you bought on impulse—but the receipt got lost somewhere in your soul. It’s tough because we’re our own worst critics, constantly replaying past mistakes like they’re on a looped VHS. But here’s the thing: holding onto guilt is like carrying a backpack full of rocks—super heavy, not helpful, and pretty pointless. Forgiving ourselves is the key to freedom, even though it feels like admitting we ate that entire pizza by ourselves (oops). But hey, letting go of guilt is the real win—your heart and your waistline will thank you.
#48. Put service before money.
I once had to do food delivery for money and was given this sage guidance by a spiritual friend: “Bless the food before you deliver it. It makes a difference.” And so, I did. I would literally perform reiki on it. I made it a game. From one order to the next. I would see how many people’s food I could wholeheartedly bless in one shift. It felt like doing God’s work.
#49. Manifest a conscious friend group.
Manifesting a conscious friend group is like ordering a super-powered, high-vibe squad from the universe—just with a little more patience. Start by imagining your ideal friends: deep, funny, and weird in all the right ways. Get clear on the kind of energy you want to surround yourself with, like positive vibes, real talk, and zero drama. Then, start showing up as that version of yourself! Trust the universe to match your frequency. Soon enough, you’ll be laughing, meditating, and having deep, soul-searching convos about life’s mysteries—like why the avocado toast always tastes better when shared.
#50. Put authenticity before love.
Loving wholeheartedly is a result of being comfortable in your skin, and owning your vulnerabilities.
#51. Live as if you’re 5 or 85.
Those are the ages when life is either full of unfiltered wonder or perfectly fine with napping and eating cookies. Being 5 means you’re fearless, endlessly curious, and convinced that everything is possible—like believing you can actually fly. Being 85 means you’ve earned the right to say whatever you want, take afternoon naps, and not care about the latest trends. So, ditch the middle-ground stress, embrace your inner toddler or retiree, and enjoy the weirdness of life without worrying about what others think!
#52. Keep a crystal.
We should all keep a crystal because they’re like little metaphysical sidekicks—silent, sparkly, and totally in tune with the universe. These tiny, mineral powerhouses absorb bad vibes and radiate good energy, like your own personal force field made of rock. Need clarity? There’s a crystal for that. Want protection from weird energy? There’s a crystal for that, too. Plus, they make you look way cooler and more spiritual, like you have secret mystical knowledge. So, grab a crystal and let it vibe with your aura while you pretend to know what’s happening in the cosmos.
#53. Have fun.
We’re here to keep a light heart. Your energy will be contagious.
#54. Write down your inspirations.
You know that perfect idea you had at 2 a.m. that you totally forgot by 8 a.m.? Yeah, that could’ve changed the world. Writing things down is like catching those little cosmic whispers before they float off into the ether. Plus, you’ll look like a mystical sage, scribbling on paper while your friends wonder if you’re decoding the secrets of the universe or just doodling.
#55. Have a student-mentality.
We should all have a beginner’s mindset because it’s like hitting “refresh” on your brain, making everything feel new, exciting, and slightly confusing (in a good way). When you approach life like a clueless newbie, you’re open to learning, laughing at your mistakes, and not taking yourself too seriously. It’s like trying to juggle for the first time—you might drop a ball (or ten), but you’ll get better, and it’s hilarious in the process. So, ditch the “I know everything” vibe and embrace the joy of discovering things with wide-eyed wonder, like a toddler meeting spaghetti for the first time.
#56. See others for the Love that they are.
Everyone’s secretly a walking, talking heart emoji with a dash of weirdness. When you see someone as Love, you start noticing their quirky, lovable traits—like how they always make bad puns or steal fries off your plate without asking. Seeing others as Love means you’re basically looking past the surface and tuning into their inner marshmallow, ready to spread joy (and maybe some chocolate). So, treat everyone like they’re a cosmic bundle of love and awkward dance moves, because they totally are!
#57. Try the Care Bear Stare.
Who wouldn’t want to zap negativity with a rainbow beam of pure love and good vibes? Imagine facing your toughest day, and instead of stressing, you just squint your eyes and boom, send out a blinding burst of heart energy like a mystical unicorn. It’s the ultimate tool for handling awkward conversations, annoying meetings, or bad drivers—just unleash your inner Care Bear and watch the world around you melt into sparkles and sunshine. Bonus points if you make a “heeeeaaart” shape with your hands.
#58. 5-10 minutes of ‘OM’.
The vibrations from Om send a wave through your body, massaging your insides like an internal spa day. It calms your nervous system, helps reduce stress, and might even get your muscles to stop pretending they’re made of cement. Plus, it’s the perfect way to annoy your cat while simultaneously connecting with the universe. Try it—your body, mind, and spirit will feel like they just got a deep tissue massage from the cosmos.
#59. Ask your dreams to show you the A to your Q.
Asking your dreams to answer a question is like texting the universe, but while you’re asleep and slightly drooling. Before bed, get quiet, close your eyes, and whisper to your pillow, “Hey, Universe, I need some answers.” Think of your question like a cosmic request—be specific! Then, drift off, trusting that your dreams will somehow deliver wisdom in the form of flying cows, talking potatoes, or inexplicable plot twists. When you wake up, jot down anything that seems like it came from a mysterious, sleep-deprived oracle. You’d be surprised how often dreams serve up surprisingly spot-on answers!
#60. Look at your eyes in a mirror.
Looking into your eyes in a mirror is like staring into the cosmic abyss—but with more eyeliner. At first, it might feel weird, like your reflection is judging your life choices (like that second slice of pizza), but it’s actually a tool for self-connection. You’ll start to see your own inner drama unfold—your eyes are basically telling you secrets, like “hey, you’re doing great” or “maybe lay off the caffeine.” Plus, it’s a hilarious game of “who’s the real boss here,” and spoiler alert: it’s you. Get ready for a wild self-reflection party!
#61. Write your younger self a letter.
Writing a letter to your younger self is like sending a postcard from your future time machine—minus the weird sci-fi plot twists. It’s a chance to be your own mentor, offering advice, encouragement, and probably some awkward pep talks. You can tell your younger self to chill out about the math test, or remind them that eventually, those questionable haircuts will make for great stories. Plus, it’s a good opportunity to gently explain that, yes, you did turn out okay, despite all the “I’m going to be a rock star” phases. It’s self-care with a side of nostalgia!
#62. Respect all forms of life.
Respecting all forms of life is like being the cool, laid-back cosmic party host who welcomes everything from ants to aliens. When you respect all living beings, you’re basically running a VIP club for every creature—yes, even the mosquitoes. It helps you embrace the weird, the wild, and the unexpected (like that squirrel with questionable life choices). Plus, it creates good vibes that’ll come back to you like a boomerang, only without the risk of being smacked in the face. So, respect the universe’s quirky guests, and watch your karma level up!
#63. Cut out artificial fabrics, fragrances, and sweeteners.
Artificial fabrics are like that fake friend who pretends to be supportive but constantly rubs you the wrong way. Fragrances? They’re like the scented candles of doom—smelly and full of mystery chemicals. And sweeteners? They’re the sugary tricksters, pretending to be your bestie but causing chaos behind the scenes. Going all-natural means embracing the weirdness of real cotton, true scents, and sugar-free sweetness—your body will thank you, and so will the planet!
#64. Embrace Solitude.
For a spiritual person, solitude is essential. Spending time alone allows for deeper self-understanding and improves spiritual health. Practicing solitude can help you connect with your inner self and the divine, fostering a sense of peace and clarity. This personal time is invaluable for anyone aspiring to be a spiritual person, as it nurtures your spirituality and helps you grow.
#65. Stretch.
Stretching your vagus nerve is like giving your body a backstage pass to chill-out central. This nerve is basically the ultimate “relaxation hotline,” sending calm vibes from your brain to your organs. When you stretch it—through deep breathing, gentle movement, or a good ol’ yoga pose—you’re unlocking your inner zen master. It’s like giving your stressed-out nervous system a spa day, telling it, “Hey, everything’s cool, no need to panic!” So, take a minute to stretch that vagus nerve—it’s the weird, unsung hero of your body, and trust me, it deserves some love (and some deep breaths).
#66. Assume the best in people.
When you assume the best, you’re basically wearing rose-colored glasses, but instead of hiding reality, it just helps you see potential. People mess up, sure, but by giving them the benefit of the doubt, you’re inviting positivity and connection. It’s like being a spiritual detective, looking for the good in people instead of hunting for the flaws. And who doesn’t want a little more hope in their life? But please, do use discernment.
#67. Take a walk.
Walking clears the mental fog, letting you think clearly or zone out completely—either way, you succeed.
#68. Make your home a sanctuary.
#69. Honour your deceased loved ones.
“Death is the end of a life, not a relationship.”
When someone passes away, it’s important to send them love. That love will help them in their full transition over to the other side. In relation to #41 on this list, my stepdad (who loved the movie Up!) will always come to me via squirrels. And my grandma? Any blue bird. It makes waking life feel more sacred, knowing that we don’t really lose anything when people leave. Honouring them by keeping the conversation going will truly help you evolve spiritually, and help you take life less personally.
#70. Engage in sacred energy exchanges.
Keeping sex sacred means treating it with respect, not as an Olympic sport or a casual transaction. It’s about connecting, not just…connecting. When you keep it special, it becomes a space for trust, fun, and the occasional awkward giggle. So, treat it like the secret treasure it is—cherish it, laugh about it, and maybe even light a candle or two. Your body (and soul) will thank you.
#71. Join a safe community.
Like a men’s group, joining a safe community is like finding your tribe—except this tribe isn’t wearing loincloths and doesn’t judge your questionable dance moves. It’s a space where you can drop the “tough guy” act and actually talk about feelings, dreams, and whether you’ve cried during a Pixar movie. A men’s group helps you level up emotionally, share wisdom, and learn you’re not alone in the weirdness of life. Plus, you’ll probably discover new hobbies, like synchronized breathing or comparing beard oils. It’s therapy with less talking about feelings and more talking about… well, life.
#72. Know that you are divine.
You are a conscious, immortal, and multi-dimensional being.
#73. Avoid ‘us vs. them’ thinking.
And yes, this does include being a fanatical sports fan.
Trust me, I’ve had to learn by experience. No wonder sensible parents teach their kids not to delve into politics with people they don’t know. Politics, in general, like sports can be likened to what Shakespeare wrote, hundreds of years ago.
“All the world’s a stage. And all the men and women merely players; They have their exits and their entrances; And one man in his time plays many parts.”
At the highest level, we are one. My advice would be to not lose sight of that.
#74. Do what makes you feel alive.
Life’s too short to be a robot scrolling through spreadsheets or binge-watching the same series for the 10th time. Whether it’s dancing in your living room like you’re auditioning for a music video or eating spaghetti with your hands (we all have those days), feeling alive means tapping into the weird, spontaneous parts of you that crave adventure. It’s about charging your soul with joy, even if that joy comes from wearing socks with sandals. Do what makes your spirit scream, “Heck yes!”
#75. Register for a retreat.
Whether it’s yoga, silence, or breathwork, retreats offer the kind of self-discovery that’ll make you come back feeling like you’ve unlocked a new level of spiritual video game.
#76. Follow ancient wisdom.
Our ancestors had some serious life hacks we’re still trying to figure out. They knew the importance of balance, mindfulness, and eating foods that didn’t come with a 20-step ingredients list. Ancient wisdom is like that timeless playlist you can listen to on repeat—it’s full of simple truths that still work in today’s overcomplicated world. Plus, it’s a shortcut to feeling grounded, knowing how to live in harmony with the universe, and maybe even finding out what herbs will help with your weird back pain.
#77. Let go.
Picture yourself as a potato that’s spent its whole life thinking it’s a championship boxer. Exhausting, right? Our identifications are like wearing a suit made of sticky notes – each one screaming “THIS IS WHO I AM!” But here’s the cosmic joke: you’re actually the awareness watching yourself wear the sticky note suit. Try this: next time you’re super certain about who you are, imagine your identity as a temporary hat you’re wearing at an extremely long party. Take it off occasionally. Feel the breeze. Be the potato who knows it’s really just consciousness in disguise.
#78. Honour your intuitive pulls.
“Oh, it’s funny how The warning signs can feel like they’re butterflies” – Halsey
#79. Pay it forward.
It doesn’t even matter who is at the receiving end of your giving, so long as you listen to your heart, do give.
Think of the positive karmic consequences as an invisible set of paparazzi following you around. But not only can they see you, they know your intentions.
#80. Give away old clothes.
Clothes are a way that we can express the colours of our spirit. It’s time to wear what makes you feel good. So that way, your external world can feel good too. – @ehimeora
#81. Cleanse your space.
The mess in your room is doing your enemies’ work for you. Clean your space, you’ll feel so much better. – @ehimeora
#82. Interpret your dreams.
Dream analysis helps you tap into your subconscious, where your inner weirdness comes to life—like that time you fought a talking pizza. It’s like being a detective, but your suspects are all random symbols, and your crime scene is your bed. Not only does it unlock hidden emotions, but it’s a surefire way to make sense of that giant kangaroo chasing you in your sleep.
#83. Don’t give up.
“An honest heart can never fail.” – my teacher
#84. Care for a plant.
Think about it: that little green buddy sitting in your windowsill is essentially an alien life form that eats sunlight and drinks from its feet. It’s quietly performing miracles while you’re binge-watching shows and questioning your existence. Water it when the soil feels dry (just like your dating life), give it sunshine like it’s a tiny solar-powered superhero, and watch it flourish. In return, it’ll clean your air, boost your mental health, and teach you patience – because sometimes the best growth happens slowly, both for plants and people. Plus, it’s probably the only roommate that won’t steal your leftovers.
#85. Still your mind before falling asleep.
Think of your mind like a browser with 57 tabs open – if you don’t close them before sleep, they’ll all auto-play at once tomorrow morning. Taking five minutes to quiet your mental circus before bed is like hitting the reset button on your brain’s operating system. Pro tips? Deep breaths while imagining your thoughts as Netflix shows you’re choosing to stop watching. Or try counting backward from 100, but seriously – don’t stress if you lose count at 97. It’s meditation, not a math test. Your tomorrow-self will thank you with better vibes and fewer coffee needs.
#86. Identify and write down what ails you.
When we carry our pain silently, it festers and grows heavier with each passing day. Writing down what hurts us isn’t just about listing problems – it’s about finally acknowledging the weight we’ve been carrying. Each word we put on paper is like releasing a bit of poison from our system. By naming our demons – whether it’s trauma, anxiety, heartbreak, or self-doubt – we strip them of some of their power. This raw honesty with ourselves becomes the first real step toward healing and understanding our own story.
#87. Avoid being rigid.
Life rarely unfolds exactly as planned. Being flexible means understanding that change isn’t just inevitable – it’s often where the best opportunities hide. When we grip too tightly to our expectations, we miss unexpected doors that open. Whether it’s career shifts, relationships, or personal growth, rigid thinking only sets us up for frustration and disappointment. The future will surprise us – that’s guaranteed. By staying adaptable, we can flow with life’s currents rather than fighting them, turning potential setbacks into stepping stones for growth.
#88. Keep a ‘Miracle Journal’ for 2025.
Start a daily log of those tiny cosmic winks the universe throws your way – like finding the last parking spot when you’re already late, or your cat actually acknowledging your existence. Write down when your plants decide not to die despite your questionable parenting, or when you find money in last winter’s coat (past you looking out for future you – now that’s a miracle). These little moments are life’s way of high-fiving you, and by year’s end, you’ll have a whole book of reasons why the universe isn’t just a cold, chaotic void but actually your quirky, supportive friend who’s got your back in the weirdest ways.
#89. Stand in your truth.
Standing in your truth isn’t just about saying words – it’s about embodying your authentic power in every cell of your being. When you rise up and claim your story without shame or apology, you create ripples that extend far beyond yourself. Your courage becomes permission for others to step into their light. Each time you choose authenticity over people-pleasing, you send out waves of energy that challenge the status quo. This isn’t just about you anymore – it’s about creating cracks in the walls of silence that keep us all small.
#90. Watch the sunset.
Sunsets are nature’s daily reminder that endings can be beautiful. When we pause to witness this transition from day to night, we’re forced to slow down and connect with something timeless and profound. In those golden moments, our daily troubles seem smaller against the canvas of shifting colors above. It’s a free show of cosmic art that grounds us in the present moment, reminding us that no matter what happened today, tomorrow brings a fresh start. Plus, there’s something deeply healing about watching light dance across clouds, painting the sky in impossible shades.
#91. Explore astrology or numerology.
Your birth chart is basically a screenshot of the sky’s Instagram story from when you arrived on Earth, showing why you’re both a perfectionist AND a chaos gremlin (looking at you, Virgo sun with Gemini rising). Numbers? They’re like the universe’s coding language. Your life path number might explain why you’re that friend who always starts eighteen projects at once. Start with the basics – birth chart and life path number – and watch yourself go “OH, THAT’S why I do that!”
#92. Learn about the chakras.
Mastering these energy centers is like having cheat codes for the simulation we call reality.
#93. Give to a cause that makes your heart sing.
“It’s definitely a learning to recognize that we don’t tithe in order to get. We tithe because we’ve already been given. We tithe because we’ve already been given so we’re supporting the flow from which we’ve already been given. So, the tithe is not even a thank you. It’s to keep the flow going.” Patricia Cota-Robles
The key to this one is: that makes your heart sing.
Trust me, you’ll get what you give. Why not 10%?
#94. Go slow to go fast.
This seems paradoxical yet holds profound wisdom.
By taking time initially to build proper foundations, develop robust systems, or master fundamentals, we ultimately achieve greater speed and efficiency. Think of a martial artist practicing a single move thousands of times in slow motion – this deliberate pace builds muscle memory that later enables lightning-fast execution. Similarly, businesses that invest time in proper planning and infrastructure often outpace competitors who rush to market. The patience to go slow early on pays dividends through sustainable, mistake-free acceleration later.
#95. Observe the cycles of the moon.
Every 29.5 days, the moon offers us a natural reset button that our ancestors lived by for millennia. The new moon is perfect for planting seeds of intention and starting fresh projects, while the full moon illuminates what’s working and what isn’t in our lives. Beyond the mystical stuff, moon cycles can influence sleep patterns, ocean tides, and even animal behaviour. Whether you’re timing a beach trip, planning an outdoor event, or just trying to understand why you’re feeling extra energetic or introspective, the moon’s phases provide a reliable cosmic calendar for modern life.
#96. Trust the unknown.
The unknown is where all the good stuff happens.
Tips for embracing it? Start small: order that weird-looking dish, take a different route home, or say yes when your most chaotic friend makes plans. The universe is basically a cosmic improv show, and the best scenes happen when you stop reading from a script.
#97. Choose the higher timeline.
Think of timelines like Netflix options – you could watch reruns of mediocre shows, or you could pick that mind-blowing series everyone’s talking about. Choosing the highest timeline means consistently picking the premium package for your life’s story. How to do it? Trust your gut when it’s screaming “THIS ONE!” even if it seems wild. Take the job that scares you a little. Tell someone how you really feel. Move to that city. Your future self is basically sitting there with popcorn, either slow-clapping your courage or face-palming your settled-for choices. Choose what makes future-you proud.
#98. Believe in yourself.
Believing in yourself is contagious. Your confidence does this weird dance that makes others believe in themselves too. It’s like having an internal cheerleader who’s part wisdom-dispenser, part stand-up comedian, and completely devoted to reminding you that you’re actually kind of amazing.
